Central States Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has an employment opportunity within the Treasury Department located in Kansas City, Kansas for an Accountant. We are looking for a driven individual to perform all necessary accounting duties within the treasury department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to the treasurer, president, departmental directors, school administrators, teachers, pastors, and others.

  • Serve as a liaison between the treasurer and a variety of church/conference administration and staff, constituents, and others; respond to questions and complaints by obtaining and providing information; resolve problems and conduct routine business; direct queries to appropriate personnel; research and provide written responses or material when requested.

  • Compose reports independently or from rough drafts or oral instructions and manage financial records for Central States Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

  • To maintain all accounting records such as a general ledger, check registers, receipt registers and journal voucher register.

  • Monthly Tithe and Mission statements.  Including the Treasurer’s On Time Report, TEAM Initiative Fund Report, and Tithe Projection Report.

  • Receipting funds and making bank deposits.

  • Reconcile credit card statements each month.

  • Prepare cash summary report for administration.

  • Most insurance matters.  Up to reporting of claims.​

Qualifications/Requirements

  • ​Education/Experience—B.S. degree preferred in accounting.  Accounting knowledge, with two or more years of experience in accounting preferred. Must be self-motivated.

  • Be a member in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing. 

  • Have working knowledge of computers, with PC experience on spreadsheets and word processors.

  • Skills—Ability to pay attention to detail and accurately maintain financial accounts.  Knowledge and willingness to use computer accounting programs is preferred.

  • Understand and interpret policies and rules.

  • Organize material and prepare reports; maintain complex records.

  • Use word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

  • Use of independent judgement and personal initiative, working to meet schedules and deadlines in an environment that has constantly changing priorities.

Typical Physical Demands

​While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit for long periods of time and is regularly required to speak, hear, read, walk, bend and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds (office supplies). Depending on the location of the position, the employee may be required to use stairs. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Working Conditions

An Accountant/ IT Director works out of a well lit and ventilated office. The position requires flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends. The workweek is defined as Sunday through Saturday.
